Susan Dawson is a contemporary landscape artist working in mixed media. She lives and works on the Isle of Skye, exhibiting her work locally and in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Since leaving Glasgow School of Art in 1988, where she studied Embroidered and Woven Textiles, Susan has portrayed the rich layers of colours and textured surfaces found in the ever-changing Scottish landscape. This year Susan's work focuses on atmospheric mixed media landscape studies from Swordale near Torrin. She has been influenced by the archaeological aspect of the landscape, particularly at High Pasture Cave where past communities have left their mark. Painting outside during this challenging period gave her the creative energy to continue her work.
"I become fascinated by one part of the land or sea, continuously sketching, absorbing the history and painting in one area in different seasons and weathers, abstracting the patterns, colours and textures.”
