Arist Statement - Rose Grounds
‘The artist tends the private garden of the soul and gives evidence of this process publicly through art that, in turn, inspires others to tend their own gardens.’ (Majozo 1995 p.89)
Summer picnics with mum and Granny, we will drink fruit teas and eat cakes and make a fire under moonlight. We will gather berries from bushes and make bubbly jam. Chop wood and listen to birdsong as creatures settle down for the evening. The spirit of Brigit resides within us and in everything, we share in being.
What’s in the garden?
It is a space whose contents change and evolve over the flow of life. During my exploration of this exhibition’s themes, I found my mind conjuring memories of me and my family contentedly enjoying nature settings, gathering food from the garden.
In terms of the cycle of life/death - renewal, I thought of resurrection as healing, prompting me to draw surreal scenes where human flesh and nature spirit intertwine.
